What is anxiety?
Generalised anxiety disorder is where you feel anxious most of the time, a feeling that just won’t go away. You’re afraid and worried about everything from lions to lab tests- it can be severe or mild depending on who suffers with this illness
Problems faced by people with anxiety
Millions of people suffer from anxiety, but many never seek help because they’re embarrassed or ashamed. Others say it can be hard to know where to turn or how to get help when you’re struggling with it. It’s hard to live with anxiety. Do you suffer from either of the following:
- social isolation
- excessive sorry
- impaired work performance
- stigmatisation
- difficulty maintaining a relationship
- difficulty making sound decisions
- etc
The constant worrying, sense of dread, and difficulty concentrating can make it hard to focus on anything else, but many never seek treatment because they’re embarrassed or ashamed.
Anxiety can be incredibly debilitating, isolating, making it hard to focus on anything else. You may feel like you’re constantly on edge and that life is one big nightmare and it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one who’s dealing with it.
Furthermore, it can be frustrating, disruptive, and draining. It can keep you from living a full life and enjoying your relationships.
What happens if you don’t treat your anxiety
An estimated 8 million UK residents and citizens suffer from some form of anxiety disorder, but only a minority have been diagnosed and treated. The consequences can be life-threatening if it is untreated because you are struggling with your mental health every day.
Do I need a GP’s referral?
If you suffer from anxiety, you can self-refer directly into an appropriate therapy without a need for a GP referral. All you have to do now is verify if the therapist has certification to practice. Of course, you can also be referred by your GP to see a cognitive behaviour therapist.
