Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
Interpersonal therapy (IPT) aims at helping people with depression and stress related disorders by identifying the problems that are making life so difficult. These may be issues they have had throughout life or are currently experiencing, so we could address these interpersonal and symptomatic issues together before things get worse!
When you’re feeling down, it can be hard to think of the best way for your mental health. Fortunately, there is now help and it is as near as possible. “
IPT is usually a 12–16-week program which is a quick, scientifically proven treatment and approach that follows a time-limited approach with the goal of completing it with the expected results within this time-boxed period.
Benefits of Interpersonal therapy
Interpersonal therapy can help people who have difficulty working through their emotions on an interpersonal level. It’s a type of counselling that focuses specifically with those issues, and it has been shown time after time to be empirical.
Further benefits of having an interpersonal therapy session with a professional and certified therapist may include some of the following;
- When you feel confident in who you are, it’s easier to face the world and take on new challenges. You can do anything!
- You’ll find yourself feeling more at peace with the people around you.
- The ability to cope with life’s challenges at any time of the day.
- By identifying negative patterns, you can avoid triggering those same behaviours in the future.
- Understanding how others feel, helps one to understand themselves better as well.
- Interpersonal therapy has proven to help with depression, anxiety and loneliness by reducing these symptoms.
Our interpersonal therapist are here to help with your emotional struggles. We will work on a more personal level, getting deep into the issues that are keeping you away from connecting smoothly with others and or feeling happy in relationships of all kinds, so you can lead a lifestyle that is filled with love, understanding and happiness.
How does interpersonal therapy counselling and treatment work?
When you’re feeling down, it can be hard to even find the energy for basic human interaction. IPT helps people identify and address problems in their relationships with family members or partners, so they don’t accumulate more sadness over time
The idea behind interpersonal therapy is that when we have bad experiences at home–whether between parents & children; friends who’ve been there through everything together—these sorts of interactions might make us become closer minded towards depression because all signs point toward “I’m never going back.”
IPT sessions offer a safe space for you to learn how you can better communicate with your partners and the wider community members, whether it’s about something small or big. These skills will help heal your relationships and prevent the development of additional inter-related issues in future interactions.
IPT is an approach to therapy where the patient progresses through three diversified stages. They’re as follows:
- Beginning
- Middle
- End
First, you’ll work collaboratively with our therapist to understand what led up or aggravated your mental instability, lack of confidence, break down in relationships, including various and specific triggers until this point in time or the reasons why it’s been difficult for you currently, maintaining a balanced mental health and doing the things you love.
The middle phase of our interpersonal therapy is where we explore the four problem areas: grief, disputes with others, interpersonal sensitivity and sensitivity to social situations. During this time, you may have one or more relationship therapy sessions focused on these issues depending upon what interests your particular needs most at that moment in life
The bulk – or indeed any part of your journey through emotional healing could involve some formative work around relationship building skills which are essential, if you want a successful closure, or when facing major transitions like the interest of getting married for example.
During the last phase of your interpersonal therapy, our therapist will prepare you for termination by addressing any issues with insecurity (interpersonal sensitivity) that may come up. We’ll offer maintenance sessions after your formal treatments end, and it could mean returning periodically to provide updates on how things are going in order to restructure or revisit our relationship if needed!
