Solution-focused therapy
Solution focused therapy (SFBT) is a unique form of psychotherapy that focuses on building Solutions rather than fixing problems. The approach acknowledges present obstacles and past causes, but it predominantly focuses on an individual’s current abilities, capabilities, hope and expectation for the future.
SFBT is a highly effective treatment that can be applied to many different types of problems. Its efficacy has influenced its spread around the world and made it an attractive option for multiple contexts, both clinical and non-clinical. The fact that SFBT can be effective means there are more opportunities for people with mental health issues across the globe – every single one has an opportunity to get help when needed!
How does solution focused therapy work?
Solution focused therapy aims to provide clients with specific and achievable goals, identify problems and understand the root causes before setting up a plan. Solution-focused therapy is an alternative therapy that pays more focused attention than traditional therapies.
Their goal is for clients with different problems–from anxiety attacks or depression, all the way down through matters like relationship issues–to be able to get the help they need quickly without having their symptoms worsen.
The therapist will work closely alongside the client, who must take an active role in their treatment plan to help them see their future with a clear and detailed plan. They will be encouraged to explore the times when things were better, by identifying what has been working for them in the past, as well as past experiences.
Techniques used in solution focused therapy
The solution-focused therapeutic approach involves asking a series of questions to help people who are seeking therapy find ways they can solve their problems. These interventions, which often start with what you’re feeling and thinking right now, provide an individualised scope for exploring all potential solutions in order to identify one that works best or is suited towards your needs.
This is a great example of how therapists can use specific questioning techniques to get clients talking about their feelings and to recognise what they are good at, which helps with self-confidence!
Miracle Question (MQ)
The Solution-Focused Miracle Question is a powerful tool for clients who want to take their life back from anxiety and depression. It helps them identify what small steps they need to make in order to achieve the ultimate goal of feeling better again, one day at a time!
Scaling Questions (SQ)
The scaling questions simultaneously assess the client’s situation and identifies their current distance from goals and aspirations. The therapist can ask them to rate how motivated they feel about continuing this path or identifying anything that might be holding back progress in order for clients to reach those lofty ambitions of theirs!
Coping Question
We all have bad days, but it’s important to get back on track. The coping questions help clients open up and see what works best for them in their life experiences because they’re experts on themselves!
Exception Question
The exception question focuses on finding out if there are any occasions in the person’s life when their problems were at least less severe, and the assessments are tailored to be related to client goals. If there’s anything about someone else that interests or motivates the therapist, it’s the client’s stories of overcoming difficulties and navigating murky waters when consumed by negative thoughts and lack of self-confidence.
What is solution focused therapy developed for?
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) helps clients identify problems and reach solutions. The goal? To bring about change in the short term, as well as prevent future issues from arising by helping people learn how they can better handle difficult situations when they arise again down the line.
SFBT is a successful therapeutic intervention that can be used to treat people of all ages and for the treatment of many different issues, including child behaviour-related problems or family matters. This includes treating clients with depression who may not respond well enough through medication alone; it also helps those dealing with addiction in order to prevent them from engaging further into self-harmful behaviour patterns
